As of 2009, there were only 120 dental surgeons providing service to the country’s 18 million inhabitants. Furthermore, the services of these surgeons are only available to those with a high purchasing power (CDA, WHO 2007).

Throughout its history, the country has never introduced any measures aimed at reducing oral diseases, and only four epidemiological studies have been published that make any mention of the country's situation regarding oral health.

In view of this situation, we have collaborated with Asociación Zerca y Lejos- ONGD to create a programme for the promotion of oral health in schools through teacher training.

During this initial year, we will carry out prophylaxis, fluoridation, toothpaste and toothbrush distribution, deliver lectures and create group dynamics with the teachers of 3,200 students aged from 10- to 20-years old at Yaounde’s Samba Institute.
